InControl is a small utility that manages the Windows 10 or Windows 11 automatic update system, targeting it to a certain major OS version, blocking updates to new versions, but at the same time receiving all critical security updates.
In order to start using the program, you need to click Take control, while specifying the current OS version and the update version displayed in the window in the lower left corner, the Windows version will remain unchanged, but receiving monthly security updates - until you click Release control. For example, if you have a Windows 10 operating system version 20H1 and you do not want to upgrade to version 21H2 or newer, with InControl you can prevent Windows from receiving feature updates in one click and at the same time continue to receive all other important updates.
Note that InControl freezes your Windows version even after the current version is no longer supported. You will see a message stating that the current version of Windows requires an update. But your system will not be updated while it is under the control of InControl.
The utility does not require any configuration or installation. Just run the program with administrator rights. InControl operation can be programmed from the command line, while providing full technical information about the registry keys that it modifies.
Also, using InControl, you can change the target version for updating by specifying the desired version of the system in the Version and Release fields. Using the InControl program is especially useful for system administrators who do not want to face problems in established and configured systems after the automatic update of the Windows version.
