To view the attached territory and information on the ruler, you can click on the button with a Roman numeral referring to a particular ruler, or on the area on the map itself. When the Esc key is pressed, the map exits full-screen mode and becomes available in a zoomable window.
The program allows you to trace how the territory of Russia was formed since the reign of Ivan the Terrible. A total of 18 periods are considered: the first corresponds to the territory formed before the reign of Ivan IV, then 16 periods of annexation of territories corresponding to different rulers are presented, ending with Nicholas II.
The last, 18th period corresponds to the modern territory of Russia.
In addition to displaying the conquered lands, a brief reference is given for each period on the ruler, his political course and the events that resulted in certain territories being annexed. It is quite difficult to analyze disconnected territories related to acquisitions of different periods on the map. Elementary animation (for example, when all areas related to the acquisitions of this ruler are flashing) significantly increases the visibility of maps, makes them interactive.
The Historical map of the Russian Empire (from 1530 to 1917), scale 1:16 500 000, was used as the initial data. When describing the dynamics of the growth of Russian territories, the following materials were used: The history of the Russian Empire I. Granat and K, The formation of the modern territory of Russia Martynov A.S., Artyukhov V.V., Vinogradov V.G.
