The study of standing sound waves in a Kundt tube is an application that simulates the performance of laboratory work in general physics in order to excite and measure standing sound waves in a Kundt tube.
Sound waves in gases are longitudinal. The group velocity of the wave is equal to the phase velocity. In this experiment, a standing wave is excited in the Kundt tube, closed at both ends. The dependence of the fundamental frequency on the length of the tube is measured, and the frequencies of the fundamental vibrations and overtones for a fixed length of the tube are also measured.
