Program Orbis is designed to study visual acuity using a personal computer. Orbis in translation means circle, ring. The method is based on the use of Landolt rings - the most reliable, convenient, generally accepted international optotype. The examinee must determine on which side of the ring the gap is located. Thanks to the use of rings of different diameters, conditions are created for determining both higher and lower visual acuity without changing the distance. By setting the level at which the examinee recognizes gaps in the smallest rings in diameter, the program determines visual acuity. This indicator is the ratio of two distances: the one from which the test is conducted, to the one at which the gaps in the signs of this series are visible at an angle of 1 minute.
Program Orbis is convenient for home and professional users of personal computers, as a screening method for detecting visual defects. The program is convenient, fast, easy to use, accessible to every owner of a personal computer, does not require deep knowledge and certain skills.
With a decrease in visual acuity below 1.0, it is strongly recommended to visit an ophthalmologist at the nearest medical institution and agree on further examination, treatment and follow-up.
