The moment of inertia of a horizontal rod is an application that simulates the performance of laboratory work in general physics in order to determine the moment of inertia of a horizontal rod with additional weights attached.
The moment of inertia of a body relative to its axis of rotation depends on the distribution of its weight relative to the axis. This relationship is investigated for the case of a horizontal rod to which two additional weights are attached symmetrically relative to the axis of its rotation. The rod is connected to a torsion spring and its oscillation period increases as its moment of inertia increases, which is determined by additional weights and their distance from the axis.
